Bookworm Bound: Disney Bound for book lovers!

Updated: Aug 9, 2022

Capture the vibe of your favourite character in an outfit and enter the competition to win a prize!

You may remember that we hosted Bookworm Cosplay last year, and you may be wondering why things have changed. Well, we love the idea of dressing up like our favourite literary characters, but found it was too cumbersome to put together a full cosplay costume. Instead, we thought it would be fun to craft a literary character-inspired outfit that you can wear to your local library or book shop without attracting strange glances. Bookworm Bound also might be easier to achieve with pieces that you already have in your wardrobe, or you can treat yourself that you can use any day of the week.

So, without further ado, let’s introduce the competition!

What is Bookworm Bound?

Participants will dress up in an outfit inspired by a literary character. The whole outfit should give the “vibe” of the character without needing to be a full cosplay costume. Basically, it’s Disney Bound* for book lovers!

What do we mean by a ‘literary character’?

It means the character is from a book. The character can be an original one that you created, or it can be from a published book. The character can be from a children’s book, a romance novel, a classic, or a graphic novel. It’s totally up to you!

What do you need to submit?

To enter, you will need to fill out our form with the following:

  • Title of the book

  • Author of the book

  • Character’s name

  • Brief description of the character: You can write this yourself or you can copy/paste it directly from the book. If it’s a quote from the book, please put it in quotes so we know it’s the author’s description. Aim for no more than 200 words.

  • Brief description of the outfit: Mention a few of the details that you included in your outfit. Did you have the perfect pair of antique earrings for Elizabeth Bennet? Is your sword a replica of Aragorn’s Andúril that you got in New Zealand? Did you make something yourself? We want to know whatever makes your outfit unique! Maximum 200 words.

  • Brief explanation of why you chose this character/outfit: Let us know why you love this character and why you crafted this outfit. What about the character spoke to you? How do you feel wearing the outfit? Let us know! Maximum 200 words.

  • Photos: Choose 3-4 of your best photographs to share with us. At least one should showcase the whole outfit, but the others can focus on the details (for example, close up shots of your shoes, earrings, or weapons). Bookworm Bound is all about the subtle showcasing of the character, after all. So, we want to see the little details that make your outfit special.

  • Social media/website: Let us know where people can find you and connect!

All the information you provide in the entry form will be made public (except your email address), so make sure that you’re happy for everything you share in the form to be made public.

What is the deadline?

The submission window closes on Monday, 8 August 2022. Be sure you fill out the form before then!

How will the winner be chosen?

We will have two categories, which are (1) adult - not erotic, just people who are older than children! - and (2) children, family, and pets.

We will vote for the winners through a Twitter poll. It will be open for 24 hours and depending on how many entries we receive, there may be multiple rounds. Be sure you’re signed up to Steven’s mailing list and are following him on Twitter (@SlushpileSteven) so you don’t miss your chance to vote. We also greatly appreciate all retweets because it helps the poll show up on more people’s feeds!

What is the prize?

Something awesome.
